Can't help but stare: Mrs Gerrard admires the Spaniard's toned physique, enhaned by the briefest of trunks

AS a footballer's wife, she knows a thing or two about dubious fashion trends.

But even Alex Curran couldn't help but resist doing a double take on this occasion.

Miss Curran, who is married to Liverpool footballer Steven Gerrard, looked a little perplexed after being confronted with a fellow holiday-maker wearing the skimpiest pair of swimming trunks.

The 27-year-old, who has barely had time to let her tan fade following her two-week break in Ibiza last month, has jetted out to Spain with her children Lilly-Ella, six and Lexie, four.

Her husband remained in Liverpool to prepare for Liverpool's match against Turkish side Trabzonspor last night.

It was during an outing to the beach that Curran spotted the hunky young man, whose attire left little to the imagination.

Such swimwear, which have also been labelled 'budgie smugglers' have enjoyed a resurgence in popularity after Daniel Craig wore a similar pair in James Bond film casino Royale, in 2006.

Since then, a host of celebrities have been spotted aping his style, including Rod Stewart, David Beckham and Jonathan Ross.

Curran's trip to Spain is the latest of numerous holidays already this year. They appeared happy and relaxed together during their holiday last month, despite recent internet rumours their marriage was under strain.

The WAG has been doing her bit in a bid to keep in shape too, having gone on a special diet and exercise regime over the past few months.

She said recently: 'I was trying to go to the gym as much as possible before the break to get in shape for the beach but I still feel a bit wobbly, which I’m devastated about.

'Although as soon as we arrived, we relaxed and started pigging out! We’ve had a few barbecues and we’ve been out for a few meals.'
