Red and buried: Liverpool squeezed past Trabzonspor in the qualifying round


Manchester City face a glamour clash with Juventus as they and Liverpool head to Italy in the Europa League group stages.

Liverpool's trip to Napoli, who won the competition in 1989, is not nearly as daunting as the one facing Roberto Mancini's side, but is not to be underestimated.


The two Serie A clubs finished sixth and seventh respectively last season but are considerably strengthened for the current campaign.

Under new manager Luigi Delneri, Juve have signed Alberto Aquilani and Milos Krasic and are also on the brink of landing Napoli's Fabio Quagliarella.

Roy Hodgson must also take his team to Romania to face Steaua Bucharest, the 1986 winners of the European Cup, as well as FC Utrecht who knocked Celtic out in the qualifiers.

Meanwhile City will also go head-to-head with Austrian outfit RB Salzburg and Polish side Lech Poznan.

Holders Atletico Madrid, who defeated Fulham in the final when the London club were coached by Hodgson, will take on Bayer Leverkusen, Norwegian champions Rosenborg and Greek side Aris.

The final will be held at Ireland's recently reopened Dublin Arena.
