THE BIG FOOTBALL FREEZE: Sporting fixtures falling as fast as the snow - Sportsmail's list of the postponed matches
Snow joke: Arsenal's clash with Bolton was called off on Wednesday
Wigan's Barclays Premier League home match against Aston Villa, scheduled for
this afternoon, has been postponed due to a frozen pitch at the DW Stadium.
Wigan's undersoil heating system failed yesterday and engineers have been unable to repair it.
Referee Stuart Atwell inspected the pitch at 8.30am and decided the heavy
overnight frost had left the surface unplayable.
And tomorrow's West Ham v Wolves match has also been called off today because of the area surrounding Upton Park.
Fulham against Portsmouth was the first Premier League match of the weekend to fall victim to Britain's worst winter for three decades.
Saturday's clash at Craven Cottage was called off on Friday morning, just before Burnley against Stoke and Sunderland v Bolton while Liverpool's Anfield meeting with Tottenham will also have to be rearranged.
The postponement of Saturday's lunchtime game, Hull against Chelsea, on Friday evening then left just half of the top flight games.
A host of matches north and south of the border have been postponed with more expected to follow.
Five Championship matches have gone, League Two has been wiped out and League One is not far behind while 10 Scottish Cup fixtures are off.
Today's race meetings at Wolverhampton, Fontwell and Bangor-on-Dee have also been cancelled.
